The hit Broadway musical Hamilton is hitting Hartford. One of the biggest shows on Broadway is coming to the center stage at The Bushnell on Dec. 11, and they expect to fill all 2,800 seats.
On Friday, tucked under an awning outside, sat Gregg Packer, who was the first in line to buy tickets.
“I got up here at 8 in the morning and tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. I’m going to be the first one to get my tickets and I’m going to be in and out of here,” said Packer, of New York.
Hamilton is an American musical, and a classic act with a hip-hop twist.
It made a bang on Broadway and now it’s on tour bringing the story of one of America’s founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton nationwide.
“It reimagined the genre while still being classical musical theatre that we all know and love,” said Paul Marte, of The Bushnell Performing Arts Center
It’s been over a year since it was announced Hamilton was coming to the Bushnell with shows running from Dec 11 through the 30.
“The only place you will be able to get tickets officially is Bushnell.org or coming down in person,” Marte said.
About 30,000 tickets are going on sale starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and it’s expected to sell out around 3 p.m. the same day.
The limit is four tickets per person.
“Tickets go from $65 to $195 and then we got some premium seats at $495. We are also going to have the Hamilton ticket lottery like they do in every market. It will be 40 tickets for every performance and you enter through the Hamilton App,” Marte said.
It’s expected to be the biggest turnout for tickets since the first visit of the Lion King over 10 years ago.
